CIHA and TORHS announce Partnership

CIHA (Canadian Inline Hockey Association) and TORHS America announce Partnership

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 14, 2002

ATLANTA, Georgia - TORHS America and the Canadian Inline Hockey Association have teamed up for the 2002-2003 seasons in a partnership that will further cultivate the sport of roller hockey both nationally and now internationally.

With the joining of forces, all CIHA events will be promoted as TORHS qualifiers for 2003-2005 seasons and will further help to enhance the competitiveness within the TORHS Nationals. Most importantly, the partnership will help to expand the reaches of the sport and therefore help the game of roller hockey to grow even further. Dave Easter, the President and CEO of the Canadian Inline Hockey Association was thrilled with the new partnership and the good it does for the sport.

"We think this is a true win-win situation for the teams and players. It proves that good partnerships with organizations are attainable for the good of the sport", said Easter.

Along with the partnership come new developments and some changes to the TORHS Nationals starting this year. TORHS America will include the CIHA National Championships at the TORHS Nationals. The top two Canadian teams, from the CIHA, in each age division will play a one game final for the Canadian National Championships during the special events day at the TORHS Nationals. In addition, CIHA, with the support of TORHS, will be selecting an All TORHS Canada Team for the 2003 TORHS Nationals. These games will also be held on special events day at an individual event aside from the regularly scheduled games.

"Our member teams are excited abut the opportunity to advance through CIHA sanctioned events, to this awesome 'player friendly experience' with a great variety of teams and competition from around North America," said Easter.

The Canadian Inline Hockey Association will also use the TORHS PRO Series as a major evaluation process for the selection of Team Canada's National team for the World Championships and the Pan Am Games. CIHA will also adjust their age divisions in correspondence to the TORHS age divisions as well as changing the levels to Division I and Division II.

"The best community Division I and Division II teams from Canada will be able to take their games and teams to the next level, while enjoying the TORHS experience," said Easter.

This partnership also marks one of the first steps that TORHS America is taking to help expand the game of roller hockey on a widely excepted international level. Along with CIHA, TORHS is excited about the opportunity to expand the reaches of roller hockey.

"We are very happy to become affiliated with such a reputable and high class organization as CIHA. Dave Easter has done terrific things and the hockey in Canada is so wonderful that we feel this bond will help to strengthen the game and make the National Championships even more competitive and fun," said TORHS America President Tony Abate.
