CIHA are seeking players that are
interested in competing in the 2003
FIRS World Inline Hockey Championship,
June 27-July 7, in the Czech Republic.
Team Canada Inline will be defending
the World title after winning Gold in
2002.
Canada will also be
competing in the Pan Am Games Aug.11-
14, 2003 in the Dominican Republic. The
team competing in the Pan Am Games is
restricted to only 8 players and 2
goalies and CIHA intend to take a
veteran team to these games.
The National Team heading to
the Czech Republic will be providing an
opportunity for younger players to gain
some international experience for the
future. Richard Ropchan will coach the
World Championship Team and Pan Am
Team. He has won two World
Championships with Team Canada and the
RHI league Championship in 1998 with
the Anaheim Bullfrogs. The last two
times Canada has competed in a World
Championships, Ropchan was behind the
bench and Gold was the
result.
Players interested in
being selected to Team Canada Inline
should contact Ropchan through e-mail
(rropchan@omha.net) and be prepared to
submit a hockey background to him.
Canada is seeking to assemble a 24U
National Team for the 2003 Worlds, but
will not restrict the age to only 24 if
suitable players are available. The
last two selections for the Pan Am
Games team will be made after the World
Championships.
Selected players
should be prepared to share a majority
of the expense of this ten-day trip,
have a passport (or begin to obtain
one) and be prepared to attain a visa
for entering the Czech
Republic.
